Currently, at my work office I am using a Desktop and a Laptop plus a third monitor. Yes, maybe it sounds nice, but believe me it is directly proportional to amount of work
Since some time back I wanted to share the keyboard/mouse between my desktop and my laptop, but I didn’t know about a good solution, plus I have been very busy last days. So I mainly worked on the lap, just adding a monitor, this help me to have Eclipse in on screen and email/everything else on the other.
I usually forget (or it is more comfortable to let them opened) to close IM windows, word/excel documents, ftp, textpad, db client, etc. Sometimes those are there for days. The result is that eventually the lap’s performance downgrade. So, some days I used part of the time just closing windows, to recover some RAM, meanwhile the desktop just hold few applications that I don’t usually change or use.
Then Paul, a work mate, suggest Synergy. So, I downloaded and installed (it was very easy). Synergy is able to share the clipboard along with the keyboard and mouse between all your computers. Now, I have all the applications I need splitted in both (PC and lap). Yes! I still have a lot of applications opened at same time, but I am trying to put the heaviest ones in my lap and all others in the PC (Lap is more powerful in processor and RAM than PC).
Take a look to Synergy, the best thing is that doesn’t matter if your computers have different OS, it would work.
Here is the link, have fun!
